The public has been assured that police will not use excessive force in making arrests.

This is despite numerous confrontations and scuffles in recent days.

Defence Minister,Inia Seruiratu says during his routine briefings with divisional police commanders, he’s made it clear that no one is to cross the line.

“The police does not have to be seen to be over-reactive because some of these incidents are isolated – one off. There is guidance as well for the police in terms of use of force.”

Seruiratu says Fijians can be rest assured that despite the threats, and the atmosphere of animosity against police, the disciplined forces will not resort to violence.

Responding to allegations of police brutality in the past, the Minister says these matters have been addressed with those responsible, charged and brought to court.
