Police are now investigating the situation surrounding the death of a 23-year-old in a road accident in Ba, after it was discovered the man did not have a proper license to drive large vehicles.

The victim, believed to be an FSC employee, was driving a truck loaded with pine logs yesterday morning.

It is understood that the binding chain holding the pine logs broke causing the logs to fall off the truck.

The victim also jumped off the truck and was killed instantly by the logs.

It was later discovered that the victim didn’t have a license to drive a heavy goods vehicle.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says employers have a certain responsibility to ensure their employees have the right documents.

“We are also looking into that aspect as to whether or not they had prior knowledge of the fact that he did not have the prescribed driver’s license. That is a concern because if you don’t have the right license then you shouldn’t be handling certain vehicles.”

The road death toll now stands at 52 as compared to 38 last year.
