Police urge calm at Deans Finals rugby

August 6, 2018 10:15 pm

Spectators and supporters of this weekend’s Deans finals tournament are being asked to disallow any unruly behavior to affect the rugby tournament and allow the students to enjoy their day.

Police Chief Operations Officer, ACP Maretino Qiolevu says this is in light of the heated ongoing exchanges on social media following the tragic accident which claimed the lives of six people over the weekend.

ACP Qiolevu says they have noted that it’s not often the students who are embroiled in these heated exchanges but supporters, and we will not hesitate to remove anyone from the games venue if one is found to be causing trouble.

He adds Police have often come across parents and supporters cheering in a manner that doesn’t encourage good sportsmanship and this must stop as it is unbecoming of adults to be encouraging violence and hatred amongst students of competing.

ACP stresses a lot of hard work has been put in by the students, parents and teachers to reach the final stages of the Deans Competition, and it is imperative for everyone to support each other in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
