Police to put more emphasis on community posts

May 15, 2012 7:20 pm

The Fiji Police Force needs more resources to enable them to combat crime from the various community posts around the country.

Commissioner – Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua says the current concept of having most resources at police stations will have to change.

“We have yet to decide and I hope that upon our return from Singapore, we will be able to review our concept of operations. But one thing remains absolutely clear that we need to fight crime well ahead which means the frontline. And that is our community posts and as far as I am concerned, we are not doing it effectively.”

Naivalurua adds while efforts are underway to push all capabilities to the community posts, the force will need more resources.

“Buts it’s useless just pushing forward without the capacity and the capability to fight the battle better in the frontline. From the ability to engage, the ability to investigate. We must also have women there who are qualified. Investigations must be done at the community post level.”

The commissioner and seven of his top men will be in Singapore later to study best practices and learn new methods to fight crime.
