Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho is assuring the public there will be heavy police presence in all the major centers and hotspots around the country.

“We’ll be out there. We will not be able to divulge the finer details of it. We’re working with technology, cameras and the likes. When we’ll be out there, how we do it – whether we in civilian or in uniform that’s something we cannot divulge because definitely the criminal elements will know. If there’s anything that they’re worried about they can call these command centers. I get calls as well but the right place to call to get immediate quick action are these command centers however if that fails feel free to call me.”

Suva retailers association President Vinay Kumar has praised the increased presence of police in the capital however they hope it’s every day.

“We need more foot patrols not just car patrols but foot patrols patrolling the hotspots especially in the Suva Central Business District area in Nina street, Mark street and the market area. What will deter the criminals will be the presence of police.”

A more visible police presence and increased road patrols is needed to combat street and community crime.
