A large number of hardened criminals currently free on bail are being visited by police officers.

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says this is a new approach to deter further crimes.

He says his officers are visiting homes of criminals who have been previously involved in home evasions and robberies around the country.

“Where these hardened criminals are we go and visit them talk to them and encourage them to stay away from involving themselves in criminal activity working with other stakeholders so they can go into some sort of employment or other issues that will keep them off criminal activities.”

The Police Commissioner says these criminals include those who mastermind major criminal activities.

_"Some of them we know sit back and do the planning while the executors do it for them. We’re monitoring that as well. We tell them we’re aware that you’re doing this. You’re in contact with this person, you met here and there so we’re also doing the confrontation as well rather than waiting for things to happen.

Certain approaches have been taken to target criminals to ensure crime is reduced and Qiliho adds the police needs to be smarter in countering them.
