November 13, 2019 4:45 pm

The National Federation Party has opposed the comments made by Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho about considering to arm officers with taser guns.

After recent attacks on Police Officers, Brigadier-General Qiliho said they are exploring the possibility of using taser guns with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police.

The NFP believes the Force should never be armed with taser guns or any other weapons that discharge force designed to kill people.

On the other hand, the party also expressed concerns about the attacks on police officers.

NFP President Pio Tikoduadua says the Police Commissioner is rightly concerned that his officers should not be used as punching bags.

He says officers should be well trained to defend themselves from violent attacks.
