Acting Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair says the Force has sought assistant from the Fiji Navy to carry out investigation into the drug find in Taveuni and the Lau Group.
ACP Nair says the request was made following the recent discovery of nine parcels containing white substances believed to be cocaine.
He says this indicates there is a possibility of more similar packages to wash ashore.
ACP Nair says the Navy Commander has agreed to assist the Force and 10 police officers will accompany the Navy officers.
“The Navy is providing their ship in terms of ferrying our officers to the Lau Group and assisting with their diving capability and also the diving capability that we the police officers have.”
To date three discoveries of similar packaging in nature have been made on the Lau Group while seven parcels were found in Tavueni.
