Police has retrieved a body of a man believed to have been inside a car that landed in the Rewa River near Kasavu village outside Nausori this morning.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the incident happened at around 4am and it’s believed the vehicle was heading towards Suva but failed to negotiate a bend and landed in the river.

A team from the Police Special Response Unit has been diving to search for bodies the past few hours as visibility is poor.

Naisoro says they have managed to retrieve a man’s body, however, there’s no confirmation yet as to whether the man was the passenger or the driver of the vehicle.

There’s also no confirmation as to how many people were inside the vehicle before it veered off the road.
