Police over expenditure a concern

July 18, 2014 2:10 am

Over expenditure by the Fiji Police Force is a concern says Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald.

Groenewald made the comment at a police quarter parade in Suva this morning.

“Telephone accounts, we are already over spending the annual budget on telephone by almost 60% so we in fact have 40% for the last 6 months, please take note of this and think about this when you use the telephone, the other critical issue is our power supply, we will put measures in place to address this over expenditure.”

Groenewald adds the detective unit will have to step up its performance in the third quarter of the year.

“On maintaining our detection rate by 70%, and I am talking to the detective unit, we achieved a 71% detection rate, i must say at this junction that there is still room for more achievements on this KPI specifically southern division who did not meet the 70%.”

At his first parade, the new Police Commissioner had some good news to share with his men and women officers – from the first of August, qualified constables can expect an increase in their salaries.
