Police officers are now being deployed to different parts of Suva City on the weekends to strictly monitor people intoxicated by alcohol and loitering on the streets.

Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri says they have set up a special operation in light of a number of complaints received about people under the influence of alcohol being a nuisance to the public.

Sokomuri says some have demanded money while others have harassed people.
