Police looking for a woman who allegedly stole a newborn baby

Labasa Police are looking for a woman who is alleged to have stolen a newborn baby from the Ante-Natal Ward at the Labasa Hospital yesterday morning.

FBC News understands the woman was at the hospital visiting a sick relative when she came across the crying – twin baby.

With the pretext of pacifying the infant, the woman walked out of the hospital, unbeknown to the mother who was breastfeeding the other twin.

Nurses were alerted and after a thorough search at the hospital, a report was then filed with police.

A taxi driver then alerted police he had dropped a woman and a baby at the Vatunibale Police Quarters.

When police arrived at the home, the woman then ran to the back of the house and in her attempt to run away from police, dropped the baby in a drain before running away.

The baby is back at the hospital and suffered no injuries during the fall.
