A police investigation is now underway into reports that water tanks are being damaged in some parts of the Western Division.
The Water Authority lodged complaints from the Waiyavi area in Bulileka, Calcutta and Kaunitoni Street in Lautoka.
WAF board Director, Kamal Goundar, claims residents are vandalizing the tanks by taking out the fittings and pipe, and in some instances, sticks have been put inside the tank.
“So we requesting if the public could immediately work with us and do not vandalize or damage our properties. And also public could advise police or out toll-free line on 1507 if they see any vandalism taking place. This is a very urgent request otherwise we could lose the water that we have filled at our more than a hundred strategic locations because of this damages.”
Police say the people need to think about the consequences damaging these tanks will have on others affected by the water disruptions.
People are advised to call Crime Stoppers on 919 or the Western Division Command Center on 9905457 if they have any information.
