It is believed the passengers in the minivan were heading to Suva to watch the Super Deans semi-finals.

“That’s the initial information that we have also gathered that they are supporters of a school from the Western Division. Initial information that we have gathered is that the driver of the truck or the truck driver allegedly veered off onto the opposite lane resulting in the unfortunate accident but that is subject to investigation and we will know more on that a little later on.”

The death toll for this year now stands at 42.

Meanwhile late yesterday afternoon Viti Minibuses Cooperative Limited president, Bola Saumaka confirmed to FBC News that the minibus involved in the accident was a hired vehicle.

Saumaka says it was not a licensed minivan authorized to operate as a passenger vehicle.
