Police are investigating an incident whereby a fifty-year-old man is dead after he was allegedly assaulted by four men.

The incident happened in Ellington, Kings Road yesterday evening.

Police say the four men who were drunk at the time stopped the vehicle driven by the deceased.

The suspects allegedly pulled the victim out of the vehicle and assaulted him.

As a result the man fell and got injured.

He was taken to the Rakiraki hospital by a passing vehicle but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say the victim was on his way to the village with his ten-year-old son.

No arrests have been made as yet.

Investigation continues.
