Police increase operation

The Fiji Police Force is expanding its operations as the country nears the festive season.

Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says, theft, pick pocketing and other crimes of such nature are rife during this period.

“Especially as we gear up not only to Diwali but to the festive season as well because we have noticed that this is the peak period for criminal activities, we know the hours when criminal elements target the innocent victims – so you will see increase visibility where we will be shifting deployment – you will see more of our officers out and patrolling the streets.”

And as the country counts down the days to diwali, the Police spokesperson cautions members of the public to use fireworks wisely.

“We are monitoring especially the use of firecrackers during the prohibited hours that has been set by the defence ministry people are being told to adhere to this because if we received report that people are using fire crackers beyond these hours awe will pursue charges against them.”

Authorities have extended the time for fireworks from 5pm until midnight.
