Police Commissioner Brigadier General Iowane Naivalurua has defended his men’s actions which resulted in the hospitalization of the Naboro five who were recaptured in the past week.

Government issued a statement this week saying it doesn’t condone the use of excessive force in apprehending escaped inmates.

But Naivalurua maintains, they had to use reasonable force to subdue the fugitives.

“In this particular case it was not peaceful situation so as such we needed to be prepared to achieve the mission. Achieving the mission, the mission was simple the mission was simply to recapture. In the process of recapture there things we must do.”

Naivalurua says it’s important that the public understand the situation they were faced with.

“This is the other scenario if people expect us to go in with a Tabua and Sevusevu that would not have happened we all know that. They have terrorized the country for a week and the appropriate plans and actions were put into place and as such they had to carry out the mission”

It is believed two of the re-captured inmates are now being questioned while the other three remain hospitalized.
