Police crackdown on dangerous mobile phone drivers

Drivers ignoring the risks and using mobile phones behind the wheel are being urged to be sensible before causing unnecessary injury, or death, on our roads.

The warning from police comes as a joint operation is underway between the Traffic Department and the Land Transport Authority.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says they’re identifying and educating those risking their lives and the lives of other innocent road users.

”Accident happens in a bleak of seconds and it is a serious offense for a driver to use a mobile phone and any other gadgets which his attention and concentration is diverted from driving.”

Those who continue to ignoring the road rule will be issued traffic infringement notices.

SSP Mishra says twenty one drivers have been booked for using mobile phone while driving in the last two weeks.
