Police corporals charged with aggravated robbery

Two police corporals, Keperieli Ketewai and Luke Tavailai along with Josaia Warodo appeared in the Suva High Court this morning charged with one count each of aggravated robbery.

It’s alleged that the three accused on April 14th this year robbed Uta Kumar in Vunisea Kadavu items worth $1, 530 which includes a mobile phone, a return boat ticket and two bags of money.

Before Justice Daniel Goundar, the second accused Warodo pleaded guilty to the charge while the two corporals pleaded not guilty.

Ketewai and Tavailai have since been suspended from the force pending their criminal proceedings.

Defence counsel told the court that there were some issues with the two suspended police officers with regards to their caution interview and admission to the crime.

The counsel says that the two were allegedly victimized and that a thorough investigation was not carried out.

The three have been bailed.

The case will be re-called on the 17th of this month.
