Police have confirmed that the body remains that were found washed ashore at Natadola beach last week belongs to the missing Russian couple.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Luke Navela says the DNA tests conducted have confirmed that the remains belong to Russian’s Yuri Shipulin and his wife, Natalia.

Police are now treating the case as an alleged murder.

However, ACP Navela says the investigation will continue with a new team of divers from the Fiji Navy to assist the police divers search for other remains at the Natadola waters resuming tomorrow.

He says the joint team will be able to cover a bigger area and are hoping that this will assist them find some answers as to what took place.
