Police concerned over multiple road accidents over the weekend

Police have raised the red flag after recording multiple road accidents over the weekend.

The first case involved an eight-year-old girl who was allegedly hit by a minibus on Saturday afternoon.

Police says the girl was waiting for her aunt with few others near the Navua Bridge and she suddenly crossed the road.

She is currently admitted at the CWM Hospital. The driver has been questioned and released pending investigation.

In the second incident, a four-year-old girl from Cunnigham in Suva who was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old man.

She is also admitted at the CWM Hospital.

In Tavua, a 57-year-old man from Rabulu is admitted at the hospital after he was involved in an accident on Saturday.

The victim who was a passenger in a vehicle with three others including the driver was heading towards Tavua town when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road and hit a lamp post.

Other passengers including the driver were treated and sent home while the victim remains admitted at the Tavua Hospital.

In another incident, a bus driven by a 60-year-old man is alleged to have collided with a vehicle on Saturday night along Jerusalem Road in Suva.

The bus driver allegedly overtook a vehicle and hit an oncoming car driven by a 32-year-old man.

Police is concerned with the high number of accidents reported almost on a daily basis and is urging parent to beware of their children’s whereabouts during the school break.
