Police beefs up security for the weekend

The Police Force will be beefing up its security measures through increased patrolling and monitoring around Suva and Nausori this weekend.

Speaking to FBC News, Police Spokesperson Jokatama Qio says they are anticipating a great deal of movement in the capital with the Powerade Super Deans Competition and Methodist Church Annual Conference in Suva along with the Hibiscus Festival in Nasinu and the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge in Nausori.

Qio says since there will be high traffic flows, Police is urging the public to priorities their safety and security, as it is paramount.

“They will be on the lookout for any usual activities, we will also be mending the roads but what we want to highlight here is for people to ensure their safety and security to be paramount at all times. The public needs to be on the lookout for that and they need to be careful while using the roads whether they are pedestrians or at the Hibiscus opening or at the game grounds – they need to be very careful and their safety and security to be paramount at all times.”

Police also highlighting the need for parents to be vigilant and monitor the whereabouts of their children over this weekend.

He adds officers from the eastern and southern divisions as well as the PSR unit will undertake this weekend’s safety operations.
