August 10, 2015 1:46 am

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be in Australia in October for Fiji Day celebrations there.

Speaking at the Fiji Day celebrations in Canada yesterday, Bainimarama says a celebration has also been planned for October 17, in Sydney to commemorate Fiji’s 45th anniversary of independence.

He says the date of the celebrations doesn’t matter but what’s important is that Fijians can get together wherever they are in the world to celebrate Fiji Day.

Bainimarama told Fijians living in Canada that being a Fijian means they belong to Fiji and most importantly should feel they belong in their homeland.

The Prime Minister says before – only indigenous Fijians could call themselves Fijian but that has changed today.

He says whether you are iTaukei, Indo-Fijian, of mixed ethnic background, European or of Chinese descent, we are all Fijians.
