The people of Bua will no longer need to travel far to obtain birth, death or marriage certificates.

A new Births, Deaths and Marriages Office was opened by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Nabouwalu this morning.

Bainimarama says the community in Nabouwalu will no longer need to make a long and difficult journey to access these basic registry services.

The new office will offer the full slate of services similar to what is available in major population centres.

The government is working with a Singaporean Government agency to move BDM registry services in Fiji into the 21st Century.

Bainimarama says the work is ongoing and they will make some announcements in due course.
