PM on Pacific Island team

Tonight’s Super Rugby clash between the Chiefs and the Crusaders is a spring board for the first ever Pacific Island team to enter the franchise.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has confirmed exclusively to FBC News that years of talk a Pacific based Super Rugby team could be just over the horizon.

Bainimarama says the talk is in place with World Rugby for something special in 2018.

“World Rugby officials were here, there was talk along that line that Pacific is going to put up a team in 2018, so hopefully that will come about.”

Meanwhile, Crusaders takes on Chiefs at 7.35pm at ANZ Stadium tonight.
