A large crowd has gathered at Albert Park in Suva this morning for the traditional welcome ceremony for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi arrived in his official car and waved to the crowd before walking to the main dais for the ceremony.
He was met by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his wife Mary Bainimarama.
The traditional ceremony is being performed by the people of Sorokoba.
In a statement last night, Bainimarama who is also the Minister for I-Taukei said the high level visit gives different iTaukei communities the opportunity to present their own traditional ceremonies of welcome which are distinct from each other.
He says this way, the Fijian government is preserving and promoting the practice of iTaukei customs and traditions.
