PM keen on developing Sugar Industry

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says there have been improvements in the Sugar Industry since 2006.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Bainimarama says there are avenues put together by government to bolster the industry.

He says there are contributing factors which led to the decline of the sugar industry over the years.

“Land Leases which starts expiring in 1996 and its politicization have seen a reduction in farmlands available for Sugar can farming.”

Bainimarama clarifies that a lot of factors need to be considered before comments are made about the decline in the industry.

The Prime Minister says the government will do whatever it takes to assist farmers and at the same time further implement more development programs.
