February 25, 2016 2:32 am

The devastation left behind by Tropical Cyclone Winston in most areas is heart wrenching.

As Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, began his tour to affected areas yesterday, families in Tailevu saw a light of hope.

Relief supplies have already started reaching communities where road has opened up.

Bainimarama says they will help Fijians rebuild their lives as soon as possible.

“If you look at the villages that we came across. The villagers seem to be in shock because the main thing they depend on, their homes, is gone. If their homes would not have been taken out, and destroyed, they would not be standing around, mingling around. They would be in their homes. That’s a protective cover that has gone from their life. That is something we need to think of.”

The PM toured villages in Nasinu, Silana, Driti and Nataleira in Tailevu.

He will be touring the Ra province today.

Meanwhile, the government is calling on tenders to build standard homes.

The submissions for tenders close next Friday.
