December 24, 2012 12:02 am

People now have one more month to apply for a waiver overdue water bills.

This was announced by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama who says many homes were destroyed by Cyclone Evan and the livelihoods of many Fijians have been disrupted.

The waiver program was launched in October and was to end on New Year’s Eve, but families now have until January 31st.

Bainimarama says he doesn’t want people to have the added concern of meeting the December 31st deadline.

The Government had given more than $13 million to the program.

So far, there have been almost 1,000 successful applications, and a total of $2,615,000 in water bill arrears has been forgiven.
