September 7, 2018 4:51 am

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has expressed his embarrassment over complaints of ice plants not functioning.

Speaking to civil servants during a talanoa session in Labasa last night, Bainimarama says he has been getting complaints from all of the places where ice plants have been set up.

Fishermen say most times they bring their catch in, there is no ice in the ice plants.

“I don’t know whether it’s because of the people doing maintenance of the ice plant or the ice plant itself is not good but whatever it is, we should be providing the people of this nation the best we can offer.”

The Prime Minister told civil servants they better start working on some alternatives to make sure that government continues to provide the best of service to the people of this nation.

“If the ice plants are not good, have them changed. If the generators are not good, have them changed. If the maintainers are not good enough, please have them changed.”

The Prime Minister has informed the Minister for Fisheries to bring in an outside contractor to review the maintenance of these ice plants.
