July 18, 2018 5:13 am

Prime Minister Voeqe Bainimarama has raised his concerns regarding an alleged assault on a medical officer at the Nasau Health Centre in Ra.

The concerns follow a report in today’s Fiji Sun whereby a doctor and a nurse abandoned the Health Center last Friday.

It is alleged two men held the doctor at knifepoint and assaulted him and demanded for money and methylated spirits.

Speaking during the Government Road Show in Ra, Bainimarama says a report was received over the weekend and the Police are actively investigating the matter and are providing regular updates.

Bainimarama says these actions are completely unacceptable and those responsible will be taken to task.

The Prime Minister says they will take a hard line with anyone who threatens their safety, or disrupts their ability to do their jobs.

Bainimarama is also appealing to all Fijians to not only join him in condemning this attack, but to also discourage this sort of mentality that breed this criminal behavior.

According to the Prime Minister these crimes are borne from a lack of respect and values.
