PM acknowledges Japan’s support to Fiji

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has acknowledged Japan’s enduring support which has impacted the lives of many Fijians.

The Prime Minister made the comments during his meeting with visiting Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister, Taro Kono yesterday.

Bainimarama says Japan’s assistance towards the Nadi River flooding widening project, the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge and the school rebuilding project after TC Winston, among others, are greatly appreciated.

He says Fiji regards Japan as a positive force in the country and the Pacific, a partner in development and a source of expertise and practical solutions to many of our daily challenges.

This, he added is a boost to Fiji’s socio-economic development.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Fiji’s participation at the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM) and commended the Japanese Government for its commitment towards the PALM process.

Other discussions centered on the G20 Summit, the COP25 scheduled to be held in Chile and sports in particular, the Rugby World Cup, 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Kono also met Foreign Affairs Minister Inia Seruiratu, where it was announced that Fiji will be hosting the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting next year.
