Please be vigilant says Bainimarama

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says while Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston this is a time of sorrow for the nation; it’s also a time for action and unity.

Having received all the information that the authorities have on hand, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Tropical Cyclone Winston has left behind only destruction.

Bainimarama has urged all Fijians to remain vigilant.

“I urge every Fijian to remain mindful of their surroundings and stay indoors. There is no telling whether this cyclone is gone for good so we need to act accordingly. That is why it is important for you to adhere to instructions from government and avoid dangerous situations.”

A concern for the government is the islands in the direct path of TC Winston including Taveuni and parts of the Lau Group.

The Prime Minister confirms that all emergency agencies are active, the clean up process has begun and every community will be covered in the days to come.

The outer islands however, will take some time to reach.

Bainimarama adds teams from government agencies, the private sector and other organisations have been working around the clock to restore essential services and get the country back on its feet again.
