The Fiji Police Force has raised concerns over the number of people that do not adhere to weather warnings.

With the heavy rain warning still in place for the whole Fiji group, Police is pleading with the general public to take precautionary measures when it matters.

Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu says warnings are already in place and yet some people are ignoring the safety advice resulting in fatalities.

“Our police officers have to be deployed for a 15 year old that was drowned and swept away by the current in Lutu Wainibuka, this are some of the things that we’ve been telling people and yet people want to test the natural power that is there, you cannot test that.”

Tudravu says they cannot afford to risk the life of police officers to work in areas that are high risk.

“Take it from us we cannot also take risks and deploy our Police Officers at night rescuing people, it is part of what we are doing but in fact we cannot go that far if people themselves don’t adhere to the advice that was given.”

Police will continue to closely monitor the situation as the heavy rain warning remains in place.
