Plans underway to build a $2.2b Tourism sector in 2021

Government is embarking on a plan to increase the tourism sector surpassing the $2 billion mark by 2021.

Tourism Minister Premila Kumar says the Fijian government derives a lot from the industry and mechanisms are in place to ensure its sustainability.

Kumar says the tourism sector contributes significantly to the development of the country and at the same time provides a significant number of employment opportunities.

 “But I can tell you that we are well on track to achieve that, currently we stand at 1.9 billion dollars that was in year 2017”

Kumar says one initiative is the focus on Sports Tourism as this is a way to market our local tourist sites overseas.
