Development works at the Labasa Airport will only commence when consultation with the landowners and others residing near the Airport is complete.
Divisional Planning Officer Northern Alipate Bola told FBC News government has set aside $1.8 million for the project.
Bola says they also need to consult the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.
He says talks are important as it will determine the place where people near the airport will be shifted to.
Bola says other minor projects also needed to be completed before the development works commenced.
Lands Department is currently surveying the area on which the project will be carried out.
