Plans to build more funeral rites facilities

The Government plans to build more Funeral Rites facilities to ensure that Fijians who wish to perform the final rites of their loved ones by dispersing ashes into the sea are able to that without any cost.

Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday opened the first of its kind, Funeral Rites Facility or Shraadh Ghaat in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the Government has plans to build similar facilities in Nadi, Lautoka, Nausori and Labasa.

“Government of course is keen to ensure build that similar facilities are actually built throughout Fiji. We have earmarked another facility to be built in Lautoka, and another one in Nadi and possibly one in Vanua levu. There is another one earmarked f, works are currently underway in nausori as you know population is quite densed in the nausori suva laami corridor. We are also working with the raralevu committee there to looking at bringing in gas driven furnaces for cremation purpose.”

Fijians have been urged to look after the facility well.

Security personnel have also been employed to look after the premises 24/7.

The Government has spent more than $900,000 on the facility.
