PIDF adopts new charter

The dawn of a new era for the Pacific Islands Development Forum as the organisation can now undertake its work internationally.

The PIDF third summit which ended in Suva yesterday adopted a new charter and meeting observer and Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, Yogesh Punja says people will have a much better view or understanding about the PIDF and the charter comes with a lot of opportunities.

“Yes it is an important organisation it’s complimentary to what PIF’s has done at the moment I think I am very very happy about the outcome, our ambassadors have got a much better view or understanding about what PIDF is about now, so that is the bottom line and to me it is a success”

Former Interim Secretary General of the PIDF Amena Yauvoli says the charter will not only assist the forum as it will benefit all Pacific island countries.

The adoption of the new charter will now enable PIDF to work with its development partners and map the way forward for all Pacific Island countries.
