The comments made by Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu have forced many people to come forward and condemn the racist remarks.

Youth leader Ashna Pratap says the Bulitavu’s comments are not only about Indo-Fijians but concern women as a whole.

“Well firstly, I hope he steps down and resign as those type of mentality does not deserve to be in Parliament. He is representing Fiji and he is representing everyone he doesn’t deserve to be there.”

Along with being racist, Bulitavu’s comments were sexist.

Organizer Hannah Persson says they’re using their petition as a platform to take a solid stand for women.

“It’s very offensive and demeaning and we should not tolerate that at all here.”

Feminist Activist Roshika Deo believes Bulitavu’s racial comments affects the morale of Indo-Fijian women.

“So all the work and effort that a lot of civil societies have been doing to include Indo-Fijian women in political and public spaces, it actually upsets that kind of effort, it pushes it away.”

Looking at Bulitavu’s history Deo has called on SODELPA to take extreme action against Bulitavu.
