People rush for last minute shopping

People rushed out for last-minute shopping at Extra Supermarket.

With Tropical Cyclone Ana moving closer, people rushed out for last-minute shopping while there were those who came from far to sell their produce.

Having battled the elements, Asinate Mautubu travelled from Naitasiri to the Suva Market to sell vegetables so that she could but essential items.

“We left home at 8pm last night and the carrier was parked on the other side of the bridge and couldn’t come across because it was flooded so more than 10 of us had to swim across the flooded river with all our fruits and vegetables and we stayed at the driver’s house.”

Mautubu says she had no choice but to brave the flooded waters so she could buy food and supplies for home.

Extra Supermarket Branch Manager Rahul Singh says there was a huge line of customers waiting outside even before they opened for business.

All businesses were advised to continue with normal working hours after the curfew hours reverted to 11pm to 4am daily.
