The public must be wary of bus drivers not having any change if they board the bus with a large denomination to purchase a disposable E-card.

Consumer Council Chief Executive, Premila Kumar says bus drivers do not handle cash anymore, therefore passengers need to have the right change.

Kumar says that bus companies should always ensure that their drivers have these cards for emergencies.

“We’ve also received complaints the buses are carry only big denominations and not small denominations where people are wanting to buy like $2 and $5 disposable cards, so they don’t carry that they carry $100, $50, $20 which the normal consumer, low income earners cannot afford or cannot buy that."

Kumar adds that there needs to be more awareness on the use of disposable e-ticketing cards as both drivers and passengers are affected by this.
