People have the right to fully express themselves: Raj

November 2, 2018 7:41 pm

With the election dates announced, preparations and campaigns are underway, with many political parties using social media to campaign.

Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission Director, Ashwin Raj says as a result some politicians are also blocking those Fijians from their pages and forums who are raising their concerns on certain policies provided by them.

” And yet these are some of the politicians who want to have more freedom of expression. They want to make this country free again. On the one hand you are campaigning for more expression and on the other hand you are actively blocking people who are not inciting any incrimination on racial or religious lines but asking legitimate questions about issues. Why are you censoring them out? Why are you blocking them?”

Raj says by blocking people, these politicians are proving that they do not have answers to policies they’re promising.

He says as a result Fijians are being deprived of their right to political participation, and right of expression.
