Penang Sugar Mill begins crushing tomorrow

The Penang Mill in Rakiraki will begin crushing sugar cane for the new season tomorrow.

Cane harvesting has begun today.

Fiji Sugar Corporation Executive Chair, Abdul Khan says the lorry gangs will start delivering cane from tomorrow morning.

Khan says mill engineers have been preparing the mill to ensure crushing is carried out smoothly.

Sugar is supplied to the mill by train and trucks.

Penang mill has the distinction of having the highest proportion of the four mils of cane delivered to it by trucks.

The Penang mill has produced 159,000 tonnes of sugar previously and is expected to set a high target this season.
