Pedestrian behavior a concern for traffic police

The behavior of pedestrians particularly at night continues to be a concern for the police.

The Officers on patrol have observed the pedestrians lately, and say they need to seriously relook and adjust their role with regards to road safety especially at night.

Officers on patrol have noted pedestrians wear dark clothes which make them less visible to motorists, sit near busy roads and some have been found drunk staggering to find their way home.

The Officers who are conducting awareness to drivers on ‘fatal five’ say the public has adopted a rather no care attitude.

Traffic officers through-out the four divisions have increased their operations as they are trying to keep the road death toll from increasing.

The road death toll now stands at fifty-nine compared to fifty for the same period last year.

The overall road death toll last year was sixty.

With a lot of major events being held and movements expected this weekend traffic officers have stepped up on drunk and drive operations.
