Non-government organization People’s Community Network has helped those living in the squatter settlements save around $2.54m.

National Director, Semiti Qalowasa says PCN not only facilitates housing projects but also acts as a saving institution for many squatters.

Qalowasa says around seven hundred and eighty Fijians have savings account with them.

“They come with $10 and after 3-5years they go back with thousands. Maybe their dreams were not met but at least for PCN we feel that we have achieved something. They come in with little money but they go back with something which they can use to buy. Something that’s much more important than the $10 they started off with.”

PCN believes savings will help alleviate poverty.
