The infamous Leader of Jezreel Lion of Judah church Jone Cokanauto’s trial began in the Suva High Court this morning.

Fifty-five-year-old Cokanauto is charged with five counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and four counts of indecent assault.

The alleged offense took place from 2005-2012.

In his opening submission the prosecutor said Cokanauto allegedly raped four of his church members and the victims were unlawfully violated by the accused.

The prosecutor claimed Cokanauto used his religion and gospel teachings to deceive the women for his sexual pleasure.

Cokanauto had earlier not pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

The trial continues.
