To increase transparency on pre-poll and Election Day, party agents will be allowed to record details from the packed ballot boxes.
Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says this information can then be used by the agents as their own tracking mechanism.
Saneem made this comment during the demonstration of pre-poll and Election Day ballot boxes sensitive material packing in Suva today.
“In 2006 the country printed 1.4 million ballot papers. Some ballot papers were found in Nasese at the sea wall, so with all those things in mind, the history in mind, the Fijian Elections Office wants to be very transparent. We want party agents to be able to record the number of ballot books being placed inside the ballot box as well as other details that they deem fit for their own records and purposes.”
However, Saneem says the party agents can not interrupt the packing process which will be done by the election officials.
