Parts of Rakiraki still inaccessible

The upper reaches of the five districts in the Ra province are yet to be accessed.

Provincial Administrator Kelepi Kubunameca says they have sent government workers to these affected areas to clear roads, bridges and debris.

Kubunameca hopes that by this afternoon or tomorrow these affected villages will be able to receive assistance.

Kubunameca has also confirmed to FBC News that 8,000 evacuees are being billeted at 76 evacuation centers.

However, issues of overcrowding, water, power and food is becoming an issue in these centers.

Kubunameca is calling on village headman’s to advise evacuees to return to their homes to clean up the damages and debris and return to the centers after to rest.

Red Cross has also reached Rakiraki to do their scoping and food rations are expected to be delivered to these evacuation centers this morning.
