Having the list of all social media accounts of political parties will enable the Fijian Elections office to implement the law nearer to Election Day when the 48-hour campaign black-out period is in effect.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem has requested political parties to furnish them the list of their official accounts on social media.

Saneem says they’ve also urged parties to communicate with those who may be operating accounts not held by the Political Party’s control.

“We need to know what are the official accounts of the parties and if there is an account which is not officially operated by the party, we’ve asked the parties in the interest of complying with the law the parties have been asked to request the person running that account to pull it down.”

Saneem says once they receive all the official accounts it will make the implementation of the Electoral Act and the enforcement a lot easier for the FEO.
