FijiFirst General Secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says every political party has the right to win seats in parliament.

He says this is the reason why parties are created but winning seats comes by telling Fijians the truth.

He says parties should be talking about their big plans for the economy, talk about their vision and goals and not pull figures out of thin air.

“These people are going around saying we going to look after the youths but they’re saying they will lift the retirement age from 55 to 60. What will happen to the young people that will want to work in the civil service? See, they’re contradicting themselves. It’s a paradox. They’re stuck in a quagmire. They’re in a conundrum. Everyday they’re pulling up some sort of figures.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the media also plays a big role in delivering the right information to the members of the public as we head towards election.

“At the end of the day we need to ensure Fijian voters when they go to the polls they’re well informed. This is precisely why we have a 48 hour blackout period. So people are left alone so they can decide for themselves but prior to this we need to understand that they need to be given the right information.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says Fijian voters must be aware of the truth and not fall for lies.

He says parties should focus on discussing policies for ordinary Fijians and talk about having development plans as opposed to trying to win cheap political points.
